Ahead of the 75th anniversary of complete lifting of the Nazi Siege of Leningrad the Museum of Military Medicine is mounting the exhibition “…The Very Love and Life, Valour and Glory of Leningrad”, which highlights the contribution of female military doctors to the Leningrad Victory. The project continues the series of museum exhibitions, which share a common theme - “Women during the War”.
Soviet women were the first female combatants during World War II. 41 percent of the total number of doctors in the Red Army were women, they made up 43.5 percent of all surgeons. 17 female medical doctors were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
The exhibition will run until May 2019.
