History and Culture: “Icons from the Collection of the Yaroslavl Art Museum” exhibition to open in Moscow

The exhibition “Icons from the Collection of the Yaroslavl Art Museum” is opening on February 12, 2019 in the New Exhibition Hall of the State Historical Museum (Moscow). The exhibition showcases saved icons of the 16th — early 20th cc. from the ruined churches of Yaroslavl. There are 36 icons which date from 16th — early 20th cc. Many of the exhibits have never been displayed before. The exhibition will be open through May 31, 2019.

During the persecution of the Russian Orthodox Church after the Revolution of 1917 many works of religious art were destroyed.
