Commemorative Dates of Russia: The National Library of Russia mounts exhibitions timed to 250th birth anniversary of Ivan Krylov

A new exhibition “Fabulous: Krylov and Company” will kick off on February 13, 2019 in the National Library of Russia, Korf Hall (St. Petersburg).

In the spotlight of the exhibition is Ivan Krylov – fabulist, publicist, playwright, legendary specialist of the Imperial Public Library.

The exhibition casts light on the life and career of Ivan Krylov, the literary context of his time, the history of development of a fable as a genre and its particular features in each historical period. The exhibition will acquaint visitors with prototypes of the writer’s works. On display are lifetime publications, his first collected edition, literary magazines of the early 19th century.

Another exhibition in the Manuscripts Department of the National Library of Russia will showcase documents from Ivan Krylov’s archive.
