History and Culture: “Sophia Tolstaya – Wife of the Genius” exhibition to open in Tula

On March 6, 2019 the Yasnaya Polyana Gallery (Tula) is staging a new exhibition “Sophia Tolstaya – Wife of the Genius”. The exhibition is dedicated to the 175th birth anniversary and the centenary of death of Sophia Tolstaya – Leo Tolstoy’s wife (1844-1919).

Memorabilia from Leo Tolstoy’s house in Yasnaya Polyana, photographs and documents shed light on the life of the writer's wife, her daily cares and duties. The exhibition spotlights a versatile and outstanding person with an amazing creative and social world: writer, publisher, secretary, librarian, artist, art connoisseur - and, of course, daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Some exhibits - paintings by S. A. Tolstaya and her personal items – are put on display for the first time.
