Year of Theatre in Russia 2019: “Theatre Scenes” exhibition in the National Library of Russia highlights the history of Russian theatre

On March 27, 2019 the National Library of Russia, Prints Department (St. Petersburg) is staging “Theatre Scenes” exhibition.

Visual and documentary sources, national graphic art present the history of Russian theatre. On display are lubok prints and early advertising posters dating from the 1870s, early visiting card photographs of ballet dancers and opera singers, magnificent portraits of celebrities of St. Petersburg and Moscow theatres, postcards of 19th and 20th cc. showing scenes from famous performances, colourful bills and theatre programmes, illustrated by artists of the Silver Age. The exhibition within the Year of Theatre will be open through May 8.
