Memory of Russia: Exhibition “Winter-Spring of 1945 Captured by War Photojournalists” mounted in St. Petersburg

24 May 2019

The exhibition “Winter-Spring of 1945 Captured by War Photojournalists” will be open as part of the exposition of the Monument to the Heroic Defenders of Leningrad until May 31, 2019.

The exhibition showcases unique front-line photographs, which were taken during battles in the winter and spring of 1945 in East Prussia (today Kaliningrad Region). In January-April, the troops of the 2nd and 3rd Belorussian Fronts and units of the 1st Baltic Front broke through the powerful German defences, destroyed the main enemy forces and took the city of Königsberg by storm. Through the works of photojournalists newspaper readers learned about the course of battles, victories of the Red Army, steadfast spirit and heroism of Soviet soldiers.

Apart from works from the collection of the Kaliningrad Regional Museum of History and Arts the exhibition features photographs from the Russian State Documentary Film and Photo Archive and the Central Archive of Electronic and Audiovisual Documents of Moscow.
