Commemorative Dates of Russia: The Peter and Paul Fortress presents “Kronstadt turns 315” photo exhibition

30 July 2019

A photo exhibition in honour of the 315th anniversary of Kronstadt is opening on July 30, 2019 on Cathedral Square, Peter and Paul Fortress. It showcases 16 stands: 8 of them tell a story of the modern island city, while other 8 spotlight its glorious history. The exhibition is organized by the Museum of the History of Kronstadt and the State Museum of the History of St. Petersburg.

Kronstadt is just a year younger than official St. Petersburg. Shortly after the beginning of construction of the future capital in the Neva delta, Peter the Great decided to build a citadel in the Gulf of Finland that could withstand any threats from the sea.
