Society and Culture: Exhibition "Vasily Polenov" presented in the New Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow

17 October 2019

On October 17, 2019 the main exhibition project of the State Tretyakov Gallery is underway in Moscow in the new season - a major retrospective of the work of Vasily Polenov (1844-1927), one of the largest artists of the second half of the XIX - the first quarter of the XX century, who opened plein air painting in a Russian landscape school. He also proposed a new interpretation of the gospel stories, which became the forerunner of the art of the Silver Age and brought up a galaxy of bright painters at the turn of the century.

The exhibition, dedicated to the 175th anniversary of the artist, will be open in the main exhibition halls of the museum after the anniversary retrospective of the works of Ilya Repin, a fellow practitioner at the Academy of Arts and a friend of Polenov.
