Russian language and Society: Dictionary Day celebrated in Russia

The Dictionary Day, which coincides with Vladimir Dal’s birthday, is celebrated in Russia on November 22. On this day lessons devoted to dictionaries, contests, meetings with dictionary compilers, lectures by leading Russian philologists are held at schools, universities and libraries across the country. All 85 regions of Russia actively participate in the events of the Dictionary Day.

The purpose of the Dictionary Day is to preserve the Russian language, consolidate its positions as the state language of the Russian Federation and the language of interethnic communication.
