World History and Culture: Archaeological finds go on display within “Magnificent Margiana” exhibition in Moscow

The State Museum of Oriental Art (Moscow) has teamed up with the Miklouho-Maklay Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the State Research Restoration Institute of the Ministry of Culture of Russia to present the “Magnificent Margiana” exhibition. The exhibition, which is opening on November 27, 2019, is dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian archaeologist Viktor Sarianidi.

The exhibition showcases exhibits from the scientist’s archive, anthropological reconstructions based on skulls of people of the Bronze Age and the Kushan era, photographs, which cast light on archaeological excavations in Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and also on the work of restorers focused on unique mosaics, which were unearthed at Gonur Depe in Margiana and today are housed in museums of Turkmenistan.
