History of Russia: Opening of the exhibition “For Service and Bravery. 250 Years of the Order of St George” in Moscow

On December 6, 2019 the State Historical Museum (Moscow) is presenting the exhibition “For Service and Bravery. 250 Years of the Order of St George”, which marks the anniversary of the highest military decoration of the Russian Empire.

The military Order of St George was established by Empress Catherine II on November 26 (December 7), 1769. The Order of St George was the first order in the Russian Empire, which was awarded not just to representatives of the upper class, but also to all servicemen, who displayed great bravery.

The exhibition “For Bravery and Service. 250 Years of the Order of St George” showcases unique items from the holdings of the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Kremlin Museums, the Ryazan Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, and private collections.
