Society and reading: Scientific and practical laboratory “Learning of Reading: Formats and Practices” will be held in the Russian State Children's Library

The scientific and practical laboratory “Reading Class: Formats and Practices” will be held on March 19–20, 2020 at the Russian State Children's Library.

The Organization Committee includes the Russian State Children's Library, the National Library of Russia, the Russian Library Association (Children's Libraries Section and Reading Section).

The goals of the scientific and practical laboratory are to discuss the modern approaches to the research of the Russian reader, and current problems in the field of reading, including children's and family reading. The program includes a plenary session, thematic sections, lectures, round tables, and the exchange of practical experience in the framework of professional discussions.

The specialists involved in research activities in the field of reading are invited to participate.

Issues for discussion:

- Russian reader today: characteristics and approaches to the study;

- Children and reading: practices, problems and solutions;

- Repertoire of modern reading of various age categories;

- Family reading: what and how children and their parents choose;

- Reader’s preferences: gender characteristics;

- The role of book illustration in promoting reading;

- Features of the study of reading in a real life and virtual space;

- Electronic database “Reading and library audience: library and sociological research”: existing opportunities and development prospects.
