
Society and Church: “Patriarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church: from Job to Krill” exhibition to present in Saint-Petersburg
The Museum of the History of Religion (Saint-Petersburg) opened an exhibition “Patriarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church: from Job to Krill”, marking more than 400 years of the history of the patriarchate institution in Russia. It covers all its periods: from the establishment in 1589 to reforms of the church administration of Peter I and from the restoration of the patriarchate in 1917 to the present day.
An exhibition introduces to the history of the patriarchate in Russia: from the first Patriarch Job to the current Patriarch Krill. It is held for the first time in the history of the museum and has no analogs in other Russian museums.
In total, the exhibition features more than 120 museum items, many of them are exhibited for the first time.
The exhibition features documentary materials, for example, photographs from the collection of the Museum of the History of Religion, in particular, with the ceremony of the donation the relics of Russian Saints Alexander Nevsky, Serafim Sarovsky, Zosima, and Savvatiy Solovetsky to the Russian Orthodox Church from the Museum of the History of Religion. The event was attended by Patriarch Alexy II. A special exhibition's section presents Orders and medals established by the Russian Orthodox Church at the beginning of the XXI century and gifted to the museum with the blessing of Patriarch Alexy II.
