History and Culture: “The Russian Fairy Tale. From Vasnetsov to the Present" exhibition opened in the State Tretyakov Gallery

24 February 2020

February 22, 2020, the State Tretyakov Gallery opened “The Russian Fairy Tale. From Vasnetsov to the Present" exhibition.

“The Russian Fairy Tale. From Vasnetsov to the Present" is not an ordinary exposition, it is a tour into the world of classical and contemporary art, cinema and Russian folklore.

The State Tretyakov Gallery offers visitors several levels of perception of the Russian fairy tale. The first way of perception leads through art: from the works of Viktor Vasnetsov, Ivan Bilibin, Vasily Polenov, Mikhail Vrubel, Wilson, and contemporary artists - to the most recognizable images from Soviet cinema and animation. The second way is a journey into the Russian folklore universe: fairy tales, epics, and tales. And the third way features natural elements such as dungeon, forest, and water, which are the main spaces of any children's fairy tale.

The exhibition will run until May 10, 2020.
