History of Russia: "From Princess Fike to Catherine the Great" exhibition presented at the Tsarskoe Selo State Museum and Heritage Site

21 February 2020

On February 20, 2020, the Tsarskoe Selo State Museum and Heritage Site opened a new exhibition in the Stable Court building (Pushkin). It is located in a small hall, before the exhibition of court carriages from the museum's collection (it will run for visitors since February 21). The exhibition is marking the 275th anniversary of the arrival of the German Princess Sophie of Anhalt-Zerbst, the future Empress Catherine II, to Russia.

The exposition is devoted to the journey made by the 14-year-old Princess Fike and her mother. In the winter of 1744, they went to Russia at the invitation of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna. The trip had the historical purpose: the marriage with the heir to the Russian throne, Grand Duke Pyotr Fyodorovich (bride's cousin, future emperor Peter III), which took place in August 1745.

The exhibition features travelers' belongings in the age of horse-drawn transport.
