Book History: "Mass circulation: from the history of literature for folk" exhibition opened in Saint-Petersburg

27 February 2020

On February 26, 2020, the "Mass circulation: from the history of literature for folk" exhibition was opened in the Korf's Hall in the Main Building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg).

The exhibition is focusing on the history of popular publications for a wide range of readers. The exposition features literature for folk as a field of struggle between pulp novels and educational literature publishers.

Among the exhibits are popular prints, which are distinguished by their plainness and clearness.

Another vector in the mass literature development is represented by publications issued under the patronage of the government and the intelligentsia - cheap book series edited by Nikolai Nekrasov, Leo Tolstoy, Vladimir Marakuev.

The exhibition will run until April 13.
