Society and Science: "Antarctica: Two Centuries of Research" exhibition opened in Saint-Petersburg

On March 3, 2020, "Antarctica: Two Centuries of Research" exhibition was opened in the “Russia is My History” Museum and Exhibition Center in Saint-Petersburg. The exhibition is devoted to the history of the discovery and exploration of Antarctica, the nature of the Southern continent, the work of Soviet and Russian stations on the territory of Antarctica.

The exhibition features the history of searching for unknown land in the Southern Hemisphere, and the First Russian Antarctic Expedition, during which the Russian researchers Faddei Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev discovered an unknown mainland covered with ice.

A significant part of the exhibition is devoted to the work of Soviet and Russian scientific stations in Antarctica.

The exposition includes interactive exhibits that make it possible to showcase the stages of mapping of Antarctica, key routes of Antarctic expeditions, and the process of drilling a glacier near the "Vostok" station.

The exhibition will run until April 10, 2020.
