Marking the Orthodox Book Day: Exhibition of the one picture "Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery" presented in Astrakhan

The library of the P. M. Dogadin's Astrakhan State Picture Gallery is marking the Orthodox Book Day (celebrated on March 14) and presents "Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery" picture by Eduard Vyrzhikovsky (1970). The Orthodox Book Day on March 14 is a holiday of the Russian Orthodox Church, which is marking the date of "The Apostle" release - the first Russian printed book. It was published on March 1, 1564. This holiday has been celebrated since 2010.

The Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery is one of the largest and most famous male Russian monasteries with a long history. The name of the monastery is connected with the caves located in it. 1473 is considered the year of the monastery's establishment.

The work of Eduard Vyrzhikovsky "Pskovo-Pechersky Monastery", showcased at the exhibition of one picture, was painted in 1970. The artist graduated from the Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture (classes of Boris Johanson). He took part in exhibitions since 1952, worked in the realistic tradition of Russian pictorial art. He painted genre pictures, landscapes, portraits, still lifes.

The exhibition runs from March 12 to March 19, 2020.
