25 April 2020

Specialists of the Velimir Khlebnikov House-Museum in Astrakhan launched a virtual lecture on the Khlebnikov family library. Online visitors will learn about rare books that formed the poet's personality, his worldview, or were reflected in his works.

A fragment of the family library, which contains books in six languages, is part of the "Khlebnikov's Collection" featured in the exposition of the House-Museum. It includes publications on ornithology, forest science, history, geography, mathematics, anatomy, botany, astronomy. For example, the library contains a lot of works of the poet's father Vladimir Khlebnikov, who was a famous scientist-ornithologist. The family’s library received new books thanks to the poet's younger daughter Vera Khlebnikova, who brought a series of the illustrated magazine "SecoloXX" from Italy, where she studied painting. Velimir himself collected Russian and foreign poetry. All of his books also entered the library's collection.

"The Khlebnikov Family Virtual Library" project provides online lectures on books on various subjects. They all belonged to different members of the Khlebnikov family. During each meeting, the museum’s researchers will talk about special ornithological works, books about Astrakhan, as well as books and magazines, including Khlebnikov’s rare publications. For example, an article by Velimir and his brother Alexander in the "Nature and Hunting" magazine.

On April 25 at 13.00 the first lecture will be held. It is devoted to the book review of "Khlebnikov's Collection". The lecture will also feature the publication "History of Revolutionary Movements in Russia" by Alfons Thun. The lecture will be performed by Ksenia Kornilova.
