Memory of Russia: New monuments to appear on the streets of Moscow

Three new monuments and a memorial plate will appear on the Moscow streets soon. Sculptors have already launched the work on some monuments.

"In 2020, some cultural events are planned. Among them are the grand openings of the memorial plate to the statesman and political figure Yuri Mikhailovich Luzhkov, a sculptural composition devoted to the centenary of the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater, the monument to the railway workers - participants in the Great Patriotic War and rear workers who made an outstanding contribution to the victory of Russia over Nazi Germany. Besides, it was decided to open in 2022 a monument to the theater and cinema actor and director Mikhail Alexandrovich Ulyanov", said Alexey Emelyanov, head of the Moscow Cultural Heritage Department.

He also noted that the monuments' installation and grand opening dates can be changed because of the restrictive measures preventing the threat of the spread of coronavirus in the city.

The sculptural composition devoted to the centenary of the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater will be installed in the arch of the main theater's building at 26 Arbat Street. The architectural and art project was completed by the team of authors, led by the People's Artist of the Russian Federation, sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov.

The monument to railway workers will appear on Komsomolskaya Square. The Russian Railways is the author of the idea and project's investor. The team of authors, led by the People's Artist of the Russian Federation, sculptor Salavat Shcherbakov, completed the full-size monument in soft material.

The memorial plate to the outstanding statesman and politician, full cavalier of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland", Yuri Luzhkov, will be placed on the house where he lived. It will appear at the address: 3rd Tverskaya-Yamskaya Street, 48.

The monument to the People's Artist of the USSR Mikhail Ulyanov is planned to be installed on the 95th anniversary of his birth in the Mikhailovsky Garden on Bakhrushin Street.
