Information Technologies and History: New digitized materials to enter the "Victory Map" by Gosfilmofond
About ten thousand articles about the events of the Great Patriotic will enter the "Victory Map" project this year.
The articles are based on the newsreels from the collection of Gosfilmofond - the state film archive of the Russian Federation. They will involve more than three hundred films, as well as several thousand film magazines.
The multimedia platform "Victory Map" will be launched this spring. Gosfilmofond is also going to launch the portal. It will store documentary materials.
In the beginning, it is planned to download military newsreels. The website will provide an opportunity to choose the time and place and watch the footage captured by the operators during the war, both Russian and foreign, which were shot at the given point and period of time. Then the site will be featured with pictures, audio records, memoirs, interviews, art films. Professional researchers and authors with a good knowledge of military history could create their own articles, essays, and sketches on the platform.
Now experts are rendering the chronicle into digital format, as well as films about the Great Patriotic War, which are also stored by Gosfilmofond. They use special high-speed scanners to perform this work.
Gosfilmofond is also intending to release new documents devoted to other topics and significant dates in Russian history on its portal. These new topics will include the 60th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight (2021) and the centenary of the establishment of the Soviet Union (2022).
