26 May 2020

The Kaliningrad Museum of the World Ocean soon will open a naval library. Vladimir Shcherbakov donated more than a thousand volumes on relevant themes from a personal collection to the largest naval museum complex in Russia.

The collection contains rare naval encyclopedias, biographies of great travelers and discoverers, high-quality illustrated editions of Russian and world classics, bestsellers by contemporary authors - laureates of literary prizes in the field of children's and youth literature. The first part of the library of 450 books has already been delivered to Kaliningrad.

The library will be located at the Friedrichsburg Gate - an architectural monument of the XIX century, which now houses the museum's historical and cultural center "Ship Sunday". The idea of creating a naval library appeared a long time ago, noted the museum's general director Svetlana Sivkova, now it has become a reality.

The Friedrichsburg Gate hosts the Lodejny Shipyard and the School of Navigation Sciences for children who love the sea. For them, these books will be not only an excellent teaching tool but also an opportunity to learn about sea adventures, discoveries, exploring the ocean, ships, and shipbuilding.
