Memorable Dates of Russia: Exhibition "I. E. Tsvetkov and his Gallery. On the 175th Anniversary of the Collector" opened in Moscow

14 August 2020

The exhibition "I. E. Tsvetkov and his Gallery. On the 175th Anniversary of the Collector" was opened in the Main Building of the State Tretyakov Gallery in Lavrushinsky Lane, 10 (Moscow).

The exhibition features 14 paintings and sculptures from the I. E. Tsvetkov's collection that entered the State Tretyakov Gallery.

The project is marking the 175th anniversary of the famous Moscow collector Ivan Evgenievich Tsvetkov (1845–1917), the founder of a private art gallery. His collection included approximately 2,000 items of painting, graphics and sculpture. This exhibition continues a series of projects devoted to the collections integrated by the State Tretyakov Gallery. The project, on the one hand, is dedicated to I. E. Tsvetkov, and on the other hand, to the life of his collection as part of the State Tretyakov Gallery and, therefore, the history of the museum.

I. E. Tsvetkov's activities contributed to the preservation of the unique pieces of Russian fine art. His gallery is an important phenomenon of Russian art and social life.

The exhibition will run until December 13, 2020.
