Internet portal of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation launched a new multimedia section marking the 90th anniversary of the Russian Airborne Forces establishment, celebrating on August 2, 2020.
It releases unique historical documents about the Airborne Forces, provided by the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. They feature the participation of the Russian Airborne Forces in the battles against the Nazi invaders at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. It also presents video materials about the history, development and present state of the Airborne Forces.
A special place in the section is occupied by the Regulations on the Main Directorate of the Red Army Airborne Forces (June 1941) with amendments by Joseph Stalin. This document determined the main tasks and structure of the new directorate.
It also includes copies of archival documents about the history of the Airborne Forces, including a list of airborne corps, a war diary of the Red Army Airborne Forces for 1941-1944, personal combat record of Colonel Vasily Margelov, the commander of the 49th Guards Rifle Division, later - "Paratrooper No. 1" - the legendary commander of the Airborne Troops.
Besides, the new section contains materials about all 19 commanders of the Airborne Forces, General V. F. Margelov Ryazan Guards Higher Airborne twice Red Banner Order of Suvorov Command School, pre-university educational airborne institutions.
