Memorable Dates of Russia: "40 Years of the Moscow Olympiad" exhibition opened in Novosibirsk
The Olympic Glory Museum, a branch of the Novosibirsk State Local Lore Museum, opened the "40 Years of the Moscow Olympiad" exhibition. It will run until October 31, 2020.
From July 19 to August 3, 1980, Moscow held the Games of the XXII Olympiad, which became one of the most remarkable sports events of the Soviet times. Preparation for the 1980 Summer Olympics was a task of national importance. Many Russian enterprises launched goods with Olympic symbols, including the mascot of the Games of the XXII Olympiad - the Olympic bear.
The "40 Years of the Moscow Olympiad" exhibition is marking this significant event. It presents the collection of the Novosibirsk Local Lore Museum. The exposition showcases souvenirs, clothes, stationery, household items, produced by the enterprises of Novosibirsk Region.
The Novosibirsk residents contributed to the preparation for the Olympiad, which is proved by the showcased documents and awards. They participated in the creation of Olympic facilities and trained athletes.
One of the exhibition's sections is devoted to athlete Viktor Markin - the two-time winner of the 1980 Summer Olympics. The museum features Markin's gym shirt, in which he won the 400-meter race and set a record of Europe and the USSR. The result of the Novosibirsk athlete (44.60 seconds) is still an unbeaten record in Russia.
