History of Moscow: "Moscow of Naum Granovsky. 1920-1980" exhibition to open in the capital

4 September 2020

The "Moscow of Naum Granovsky. 1920-1980" exhibition marks the 110th anniversary of photographer Naum Granovsky, who had been working at TASS for more than 40 years. It will be opened at the Lumiere Brothers Centre for Photography (Moscow) on September 4, 2020. The exposition brings together more than 100 works of the master.

Being a TASS photographer within 40 years, Granovsky captured not only new urban areas but also villages adjoining city blocks and wastelands, which would be covered with new buildings over time.

The exhibition features more than 100 works by Granovsky - famous photographs of old Moscow in the 1920s and the Stalin period, as well as lesser-known pictures created during the era of Soviet modernism. They allow tracing the progress of Moscow innovations and development of Soviet architecture within 60 years. The exposition is presented in two halls: the first part of the project features original author's prints from the collection of the Lumiere Gallery, the second - photographs of the Soviet modernism architecture showcased for the first time.
