Memory of the World: Exhibition marking the 140th anniversary of Alexander Grin presented in Saint-Petersburg

The exhibition "The Country of GRINlandia", marking the 140th anniversary of Alexander Grin was launched in the New Building of the National Library of Russia (Saint-Petersburg).

The exposition consists of sections - "routes" that will take the visitor through a fiction country. The "Life Map" section is devoted to the most significant places for the writer. "Theatrical Map" presents famous theatrical performances and film adaptations of the writer's works. The most interesting exhibits are "editing" records for the films "Scarlet Sails" (1961) and "She Who Runs on the Waves" (1967). "Literary Map" features cities, seas, islands invented by Green. The writer created his country following the art rules.

The exhibition also presents books from the series "Images of the Past", which published the writer's letters, poems, diary records and personal photographs. A significant part of the materials is showcased for the first time.

The exhibition also highlights the novel "She Who Runs on the Waves" - the first edition of the series "The World of Alexander Grin" (2009). The publication was prepared by the Alexander Grin Feodosia Literary and Memorial Museum. It is based on the first lifetime edition of 1928. The book is decorated with drawings by the young artist Nadya Rusheva from the museum's collection.

A special place at the exposition is occupied by the publication of the story "Scarlet Sails" with illustrations by Mikhail Bychkov. It is included in the Honorary List of the Most Beautiful Books in the World. The artist received the highest international award for achievements in the field of book art - the honorary diploma of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).

The final section "Memory Map" spotlights the Alexander Grin museums in Feodosia and Kirov as well as the "Scarlet Sails" holiday, which has become the symbol of the Northern Capital.

The exhibition will run until September 13.
