Territory of Russia: State Darwin Museum in Moscow opened the "Primordial Russia. Selected Works" photo exhibition

21 September 2020

The exhibition of selected works of the VII All-Russian Festival of Nature "Primordial Russia" was launched in the State Darwin Museum in Moscow. The exposition includes images of the best photo projects of the 2020 festival. The exhibition continues the program of the "Meet the Reserves!" festival by the State Darwin Museum, which promotes the wealth of protected areas in Russia, ecotourism and volunteer movement in nature reserves and national parks.

The most unusual exhibits are the photographs of the legendary sea-unicorn of the Arctic - the narwhal. Unique pictures were taken in 2019, during a thirty-day scientific expedition on the icebreaker "Mikhail Somov" near Franz Josef Land in the Arctic Ocean. This expedition became the first stage of the complex research project “Narwhal. Legend of the Arctic".

One of the most expressive expositions of the festival is the photo story of Liana Varavskaya, dedicated to the life of brown bears. The photographer lives and works in the Kronotsky Nature Reserve.

This year, Igor Shpilenok presented the large photo project "Virgin Forests of Russia" for the first time. In a specially equipped car, the famous naturalist photographer travels around our country in search of unique virgin forests.

Another participant of the exhibition, Andrei Shpatak, was born and brought up on the shores of the Sea of Japan. With his original photographs, he proves that diving in the north of Primorye may be no less impressive than in the Red Sea. His photo collection contains pictures of nudibranchs, shrimps, Kamchatka and bristly crabs and a great variety of fish.

Vladimir Ryabkov devoted his life to travelling around Russia. He visits both famous places and distant nooks of Russia, and always brings inspiring landscapes full of light and colour. His impressive works made in 2019, were also included in the exhibition.
