
Libraries and Society: VI International Congress "Modern Youth in the Modern Library" to hold online
On October 13, 2020, the VI International Congress "Modern Youth in the Modern Library" will take place online. The event is organized by the Russian State Library for Youth with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Youth Library Services Section of the Russian Library Association.
The theme of the 2020 Congress is "Education and Self-Education in the Youth Environment".
Congress intends to discuss the library practice of supporting formal, non-formal and spontaneous (informal) education. Its main issues spotlight the experience of implementing educational programs and improving the variety of educational services in libraries, new approaches to organizing library space (collections, resources, technologies, services, services), as well as the influence of modern libraries on the quality of education and self-education.
Indeed, libraries may become the place, which integrates people of all ages and interests; places with lots of diverse non-formal education practices; spaces for the development of new competencies, getting new knowledge and skills.
There will be discussed the following issues:
- Education and self-education in the demand structure of modern youth.
- Education beyond the standard educational environment: the library's prospects as an active player in the additional and spontaneous education market.
- The library as an open space of knowledge. The "hot" challenge or an axiom?
- Library in the system of alternative opportunities for the individual educational activity of a person.
- Library in the conditions of modern educational media space.
- Professional education directly in the library: Advantages and difficulties.
- Models to compete and get new knowledge for libraries to become an equal player in the educational environment.
The business Congress program will include: an expert session "The role of education and self-education in building career strategies for youth"; panel discussion "Exploring knowledge, or How to make the library an effective platform for education and self-education of youth"; round table "Educational practices in the library".
The Congress foreign guests from the libraries of Serbia and the USA will share their projects and practical experience.
