Society and culture: Exhibition “I. E. Zabelin - Chronicler of Russian Life" opened at the State Historical Museum

In 2020, the Russian scientific community celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding Russian historian, archaeologist, archivist, one of the founders of the State Historical Museum and its long-term de facto director - Ivan Yegorovich Zabelin.

Society and culture: Exhibition “I. E. Zabelin - Chronicler of Russian Life” is opened at the State Historical Museum.

The exhibition has been opened in the historical space of the museum, the so-called Chairman's Office. Nearby, in I. E. Zabelin's study, his memorial things, some of which were here during the life of Ivan Yegorovich, are presented. Visitors will be able to see a portrait of the father of the future scientist, a daguerreotype of Zabelin himself; documents, photographs, portraits of scientists and cultural figures who influenced the formation and scientific activity of the historian; his manuscripts, scientific works published both during his lifetime and published after death. Artifacts related to the activities of I. E. Zabelin in the Archaeological Commission and field archaeological research will be demonstrated.

A separate hall of the exhibition is dedicated to the State Historical Museum, in the creation of which Ivan Yegorovich put his soul. Here are presented not only documents and photographs from the times of Zabelin's service, but also the most valuable monuments of history and culture that came to the museum during the life of the historian, as well as those acquired by the museum after Zabelin's death on income from the capital bequeathed to him.
