Memorable Dates of Russia: Exhibition marking the 135th anniversary of the poet Velimir Khlebnikov opened in Astrakhan

On October 30, 2020, the Velimir Khlebnikov House-Museum in Astrakhan launched the exhibition "I Am! I Was! I Will Be!", which presents paintings and graphic portraits of the poet from the collection of the Astrakhan Art Gallery. They all were created at different times by such artists as Pyotr Miturich (Moscow, 1955), Andrei Volkonsky (Moscow, the 1950s), Bergali Aliev (Astrakhan, 1982), Serafim Pavlovsky (Moscow, 1985), Alexander Putov (Paris, 1989), Stepan Botiev (Troitskoye village, Kalmykia, 1990-2000), Vladimir Providokhin (Minsk, 2004), Vyacheslav Novichkov (Moscow, 2016).

The exhibition shows the diversity of portraits. The image of Velimir Khlebnikov is considered the most mysterious in literature. The poet and his works have been a constant source of inspiration for artists of various art movements for more than a hundred years.

The exhibition opens a series of anniversary events. It’s distinctive feature is the uniqueness of the content. It provides the opportunity to see rare visual materials. The exposition will encourage the poet's lovers to further study his heritage.
