
Russian Language and Society: Composition of the Government Commission on the Russian language appointed

In total, the commission included 43 people. Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov has been appointed chairman. Among the participants - Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Dmitry Afanasyev, Deputy Minister of Culture Olga Yarilova, Head of the Federal Service for Supervision in Education and Science Anzor Muzaev, Rector of Saint-Petersburg State University Nikolai Kropachev, Rector of Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Russian State University for the Humanities Alexander Bezborodov, Rector of Peoples' Friendship University of Russia Oleg Yastrebov, Rector of the Herzen Russian Pedagogical University Sergei Bogdanov, rector of the Gorky Literary Institute Alexey Varlamov, Director of the Vinogradov Institute of the Russian Language Maria Kalenchuk, Rector of the Pushkin State Institute of the Russian Language Margarita Rusetskaya, deputy head of the "Kultura" TV channel Alexander Efimovich, deputy general director of TASS Andrei Sokolov, deputy chief editor of the International Informational Agency "Russia Today" Natalya Loseva.
The Government Commission on the Russian language was created by the order of the Russian President. It aims to preserve and ensure the development of the Russian language in Russia and abroad, form an integrated language policy.
The commission meetings will take place at least twice a year. The nearest plans include the development of the concept of the state language policy, the expert analysis of the rules of Russian spelling and punctuation, the setting of unified requirements for dictionaries, reference books and grammars containing the norms of the modern Russian literary language. A significant activity will be devoted to the professional development of specialists in the Russian language.
The Charter of the Commission was ratified on August 8, 2020.
