Peoples of Russia: Astrakhan to launch the exhibition project "Visiting the Tatars"

On December 25, 2020, the Astrakhan Local Lore Museum will launch the inter-museum exhibition project "Visiting the Tatars". It is a colourful encyclopedia of national culture that clearly and exciting tells about everyday life, holidays, old rituals and customs of the Tatars. The exhibition features over 300 exhibits from the collection of the Yelabuga State Museum-Reserve.

The exposition includes a rich ethnographic material of the late XIX- early XX centuries. It brought together museum items, arts and crafts, paintings by contemporary artists created as a result of 15 international contemporary art symposia in Yelabuga. The artworks present all varieties of Tatar rituals and customs, folk epic stories, memories of childhood and native land, sights of Tatarstan.

The exhibition comprises women's Tatar costumes, jewellery, the famous coloured leather shoes, slippers with soft and hard soles, pillows and panels with floral ornaments, tools, dishes, furniture and musical instruments.

The exhibition has been already displayed in Orenburg and Yekaterinburg.

It will run in Astrakhan until January 28, 2021.
