Society and Book Culture: Exhibition "What Books are Silent about…", devoted to a book publishing industry in the Komi Republic, opened in Syktyvkar

16 January 2021

The I. A. Kuratov Literary Museum (Syktyvkar) launched the exhibition "What Books are Silent about…" marking the centenary of a book publishing industry in the Komi Republic.

The exhibition spotlights the development of the book business in the republic.

In December 1920, the first ABC-book in the Komi language by V. A. Molodtsov was issued. This small, 28-page book on grey craft paper marked the beginning of book publishing that united writers, journalists, publishers, typographers and artists.

The exhibition features rare publications of the 1920-s – 1940-s, photographs and documents about the history of the book industry from the collections of the Komi Republic National Museum. There are first textbooks for Komi schools, socio-political, scientific, fiction editions. The exposition also focuses on the art of graphic artists V. V. Polyakov and M. P. Beznosov - the pioneers in book design.
