History and Culture: Exhibition "Sergei Levitsky: Historical Images by a Photographer-Reformer" opened in Moscow
The Alexander Herzen House-Museum (a branch of the State Literary Museum in Moscow) opened the exhibition "Sergei Levitsky: Historical Images by a Photographer-Reformer. From Herzen, Gogol and Leo Tolstoy to Crowned Persons".
The exhibition of photographs of Sergei Levitsky, Alexander Herzen's cousin, tells about the art way of the master: from the first experiments in daguerreotype to the establishment and many years of successful work of his ateliers in Saint-Petersburg and Paris.
Sergei Levitsky, a famous master of photography, depicted prominent Russian writers and poets - Gogol, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Nekrasov, Tyutchev and many others. He photographed public figures and statesmen, including emperors, and also made several beautiful portraits of Herzen. Despite the difference in worldviews, both contributed to a collective picture of their contemporary society in their way.
The brothers' relationship was not always smooth. This and more is possible to learn at the exhibition and relevant excursions.
