Society and Culture: Exhibition "Avant-garde and Design. Book and Industrial Graphics of the 1930s-1970s" launched in Saint-Petersburg

2 February 2021

The Museum of Saint-Petersburg Avant-garde launched the exhibition "Avant-garde and Design. Book and Industrial Graphics of the 1930s-1970s".

The exhibition showcases over 90 graphic works from the collections of the State Museum of the History of Saint-Petersburg. Their authors are artists whose oeuvre once followed the traditions of the classic Russian avant-garde. The exposition features artworks united by a common idea - the products created on their basis were intended for children.

The largest exhibition section is devoted to book graphics. There are illustrations for fairy tales, children's primers and reading books, poems and other pieces of children's literature.

Another section spotlights industrial graphics. The theatre section includes sketches of puppets and puppet theatre stage sets, as well as kits for creating a tabletop theatre.

The exposition presents the high professional pictures that illustrate the contribution of the Russian avant-garde to the development of Russian design.

The exhibition will run until May 27, 2021.
