
Memorable Dates of Russia: Russian State Library in Moscow launched an exhibition devoted to the 195th anniversary of Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin
The exhibition "The Oeuvre of Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin and the Development of the Satirical Genre in Russian Literature of the XIX Century", which marks the 195th writer's anniversary, was opened at the Rumyantsev Reading Room of the Russian State Library (Moscow).
The exhibition presents draft manuscripts of the satirist - the story Judgments of Noble Foreigners about the Pompadours, an excerpt from the essay On Russian Truth and Polish Untruth, an excerpt from the article Testament to My Children, a copy of the tale The Eagle-Patron recorded by S. Skrebitskaya - an owner of the house in Saint-Petersburg, where the writer lived for 14 years.
Besides, the exposition features correspondence with the doctor and public figure Nikolai Belogolov, writer Konstantin Bukh, editor of the Russkaya Mysl' newspaper Viktor Goltsev, publisher of the Atheney magazine Yevgeny Korsh, editor of the Otechestvennye Zapiski magazine Grigory Eliseev, writer Dmitry Mamin-Sibiryak and poet Nikolai Nekrasov.
A separate section is devoted to the literary criticism of Saltykov-Shchedrin's oeuvre by such famous political figures as Panteleimon Lepeshinsky, Maria Essen, Nikolai Meshcheryakov, who participated in the publication of the writer's Complete Works in 1933.
