Internet and History: Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation launched the historical and educational section about the war heroes

On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation launched an "Anthology of February 23" - a historical and educational section about the war heroes. It features issues of February 23 (1942-1945) of the "Krasnaya Zvezda" newspaper.

The general content of the new historical and educational section on the ministry's website are publications of the "Krasnaya Zvezda" newspaper, issued on February 23 during the four war years: 1942, 1943, 1944 and 1945. The exposition presents archival documents about the feats of soldiers and commanders during the combat operations of the Red Army, described in newspaper publications.

The section contains award documents from the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation. They tell about all the heroes of the Soviet Union, whose exploits were reported by the newspaper. Among them, for example, is the famous sniper Vasily Zaitsev. Article about him was issued on February 23, 1943. The officer's award list informs that he had shot over two hundred enemy soldiers and officers in street battles in Stalingrad.

Released historical documents also spotlight the combat way of some units and armies mentioned by the "Krasnaya Zvezda" newspaper.

The publication of archival documents of the Great Patriotic War from the collections of the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation is part of the ministry's program aimed at defending and protecting historical truth, preventing falsifications of history and attempts to revise the outcomes of World War II.
