Memorable Dates of Russia: Exhibition marking the 200th anniversary of poet Afanasy Fet presented in Moscow

5 March 2021

The "Being Fet" exhibition was launched at the House of Ilya Ostroukhov in Trubniki (Moscow). It is the main exhibition space of the Vladimir Dal State Museum of the History of Russian Literature. The exposition marks the 200th anniversary of the poet.

The general features of the art exhibition concept are replication and refraction. The first hall provides immersion in Fet's poetry using audiovisual options like sound, visual art and light. The second hall is devoted to the poet's life. It promotes a set of stories about Fet composed in random order. The third hall features the opinions and reviews of the poet's contemporaries about him reflected in romances, parodies and poetical responses. The exhibition presents numerous original archival materials, photographs, letters, illustrations, manuscripts from the collections of the Vladimir Dal State Museum of the History of Russian Literature and other Russian museums, libraries and archives. Some of them are showcased for the first time.

The exhibition "Being Fet" has both real and virtual versions. On the day of the 200th anniversary of Afanasy Fet (December 5, 2020), there was launched the virtual part of the exposition project, which included online lectures, excursions and creative meetings, devoted to the future exposition.

The exhibition will run until May 16, 2021.
