The XVII International Russian Language Olympiad, hosted by the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, will be held online. The Olympiad will have three stages: registration of participants until March 20; the contest until April 5; the final in late April.

The Olympiad 2021 is not like all previous ones. For the first time, it is completely online. Margarita Rusetskaya, rector of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, said that it will engage more participants.

Previously, it was designed only for school students from abroad who study Russian as a foreign language and those whose education is entirely in Russian. This year, the Institute invites bilingual children, foreign students studying both in Russia and abroad, students of Russian pre-university programs, as well as young researchers who study Russian and those whose professional life is connected with Russian.

Contests will be held on the portal "Education in Russian". Participants will choose one of three thematic sections: "Russian as the Language of Education", "Russian as the Language of Profession and Career" and "Russian as the Language of Science".

According to the results, 50 winners will be announced. They will receive prizes: Vitaly Kostomarov scholarships, certificates for participation in the Russian Language Summer School, free certification testing and subscriptions to the Russian Abroad magazine.
