World History: Exhibition "Mongolia at the Turn of the Century" opened at the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow

21 March 2021

An exhibition "Mongolia at the Turn of the Century" was opened at the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow. It marks such significant dates as the centenary of the Mongolian Revolution and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and Mongolia.

The exhibition features more than 100 paintings and graphic works, painted and applicative iconographic canvases, rare items of cult and modern sculpture, as well as objects of applied art. The State Museum of Oriental Art showcases most of these works for the first time.

The exposition's concept is to reveal the change from religious to profane art. Particular attention is paid to the development and kinds of profane art. At the beginning of the XX century, the rich traditions of Buddhist fine arts along with Russian and European art trends new to Mongolia formed a very expressive and unique style in Mongolian art, called Mongol Zurag ("Mongolian Drawing").

The exhibition will run until April 25, 2021.
