An online translator will be developed for the indigenous peoples of the Arctic zone of Russia. It is the central issue in the global plan for the Decade of the World's Ingenious Languages.

"The dictionary will include 19 languages of the indigenous peoples of Russia living in the Arctic region", said representatives of the Council of Communities of Indigenous Peoples of the North.

According to them, electronic dictionaries will become the basis for creating and improving an online translator.

The "Kirillika" publishing house and the Centre for Arctic and Siberian Studies of the Sociological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences will compose the vocabulary and translator.

"Russia meets the beginning of the Decade of the World's Ingenious Languages with rich experience and opportunities. Our country has good relations between indigenous peoples and state structures. Peoples’ opinion has a decisive impact on the preservation of languages'', said Inessa Tomskaya, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Communities of Indigenous Peoples of the North.

The Decade of the World's Ingenious Languages starts next year and runs until 2032.

Nineteen indigenous peoples are living in the Russian Arctic. This territory also houses the historical and cultural heritage objects of global importance. According to the 2010 All-Russian Population Census, the number of indigenous peoples in the Arctic zone is 102 thousand people.
