Museums and Society: Gatchina Museum-Reserve to launch the Year of Emperor Paul I

28 March 2021

In 2021, the Gatchina Museum-Reserve commemorates Emperor Paul I - the first royal owner of Gatchina. This year marks several anniversaries: 225 years of the sovereign's accession and Gatchina's status as a city, 220 years of the tragic death of the emperor, as well as 170 years of the unveiling of the monument to Paul I in front of the Gatchina Palace.

Pavel Petrovich became the owner of the palace and park ensemble in 1783 as the heir to the throne. During his reign, Gatchina remained the beloved residence of the emperor.

Throughout the year, the Gatchina and Prioratsky palaces will host educational and cultural events traditionally associated with the memorable dates of the life of Paul I, as well as special projects as part of the announced Year of Paul I.

So, on March 26, there was an exhibition of one item "Serving God and Motherland. Uniform of Emperor Paul I"; a special section #PaulRuledHere was launched on all social networks.

On March 28, the museum will launch the series of excursions "Sunday with Pavel Petrovich" (every Sunday).

On July 1, an exhibition of one item "The Practice of Studying. Emperor Paul I's Folding Furniture Set" will be presented.

On August 14, it will be possible to see the formal guard mount marking the 170th anniversary of the unveiling of Paul I's monument.

On October 1, the inter-museum exhibition "Gatchina - a Palace City" and an exhibition of one item "Fatherhood. Portraits of the Children of Paul I" will be opened.
