1 April 2021

"The Rukavishnikovs’ Estate" Museum (Nizhny Novgorod) launched a new exhibition "The Great Reform", which marks the most significant historical event - the 160th anniversary of the Emancipation Reform in Russia.

It features original documents and awards, commemorative signs and tokens from the museum collections, related to the peasant reform; portraits of representatives of the Nizhny Novgorod administration - participants in its realisation; items of applied art; a rare publication The Great Reform, issued by the printing house of Ivan Dmitrievich Sytin in 1911 to the 50th anniversary of the reform.

One of the most remarkable exhibits is a box painted by Vera Figner, a Russian revolutionary, a member of the Executive Committee of Narodnaya Volya (People's Will, revolutionary movement) and a participant in the preparation of the assassination of Emperor Alexander II. The box belonged to Evdokia Sitnikova, who lived in Nizhny Novgorod. Then it entered the museum collection.
