Marking the 60th Anniversary of the First Manned Space-flight: "Profession - Cosmonaut" exhibition opened in Smolensk

4 April 2021

The exhibition is presented in the Historical Museum, a branch of the Smolensk State Museum-Reserve.

The world cosmonautics totals 567 people who travelled in space. The profession of a cosmonaut remains one of the rarest, most romantic and dangerous in the modern world.

Studying the history of the cosmonaut profession over the past 60 years, we may trace its evolution. In the 1960s, the main task was the conquest of outer space by man and modern technology. The current mission is research and exploration of space resources with the common goal of improving life on Earth. The exhibition tells about this difficult profession and its tasks in space. It is presented in Smolensk, the native land of Yuri Gagarin - the first man in outer space.

The exhibition was arranged jointly with the Smolensk State Museum-Reserve.

The exposition features original items from the collection of the Museum of Cosmonautics in Moscow:
