The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation continues its work to preserve the memory of the heroism and courage of the Red Army soldiers who fell in the struggle for the freedom of the whole world. The Internet portal of the military department launched a new multimedia section "Hungary Remembers, Cannot Forget" as part of the project "No Statute of Limitations". It is devoted to the liberation of Hungary and the soldiers of the Red Army who died for its freedom and independence. The section features documents from the collections of the Central Archives of the Ministry of Defence: war diaries, record cards of military burials, lists of killed soldiers, award certificates of war heroes, documents on the relations of the local population and the Red Army soldiers and Soviet assistance to the Hungarian people.

Eliminating Nazism, the Red Army soldiers demonstrated exceptional heroism and courage, devoted their lives. There are lots of mass graves in places of fierce struggles near Budapest and throughout Hungary. The section contains record cards of military burials.

The section on the liberation of Hungary also includes the resolution of the State Defence Committee No. 6803 of October 27, 1944. It approves the order that the command of the Red Army established in the liberated territories. The wartime document stated that commandants of settlements should be appointed, the railway and communication lines should be taken under control; contracts with local producers on the purchase of food for the army should be concluded.

The section also presents archival documents and evidence of the terrible crimes of the German occupiers in Hungary.

After the war, the USSR provided assistance to the Hungarian population and the state, described by Hungarian newspapers. The materials contain words of gratitude from residents, messages about the arrival of necessary goods, food, equipment and fuel, and a hand-drawn illustration with Soviet trucks from the newspaper Sabad Nep (Free People).

Archival documents of the multimedia section were declassified and released as part of the project "No Statute of Limitations", implemented on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation.
