Marking the 76th Anniversary of the Great Victory: Saint-Petersburg to host the "Victory Day" exhibition

5 May 2021

On May 5, 2021, the "Victory Day" art exhibition dedicated to the 76th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War will open in the Big Hall of the Saint-Petersburg Union of Artists.

The Union of Artists worked during the Great Patriotic War without a single break in its creative life. There were an operating engraving workshop and the printing of leaflets for the front, propaganda and street posters.

In the most difficult time of 1942-1945, they managed to arrange more than ten art exhibitions. An exhibition of works by Leningrad artists was presented at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts in Moscow in May 1942.

The annual "Victory Day" exhibition has a long history. The Council of Veterans of the Great Patriotic War of the Union of Artists arranged exhibitions of war veterans in the halls of the Union and invited young artists to participate with works on a military-patriotic theme. Only a few of the veteran artists - participants in the Great Patriotic War, are still alive. The format of the annual exhibitions has changed. The Big Hall of the Union of Artists hosts annual exhibitions engaging all generations of artists.

The exhibition includes more than 300 works of painting, graphics, sculpture, applied arts and critical articles.

The exhibition will run until May 15.
