Memorable Dates of Russia: Exhibition project "Conversation with the Master...", marking the 150th anniversary of Igor Grabar, presented in Moscow
The Grabar Art Conservation Centre (Moscow) and the "Workshop 18" Art Association present an exhibition project "Conversation with the Master...". It is open in the Ovchinnikov Icon Library, one of the buildings of the Centre.
The project marks the 150th anniversary of Igor Grabar. It is devoted to the rich heritage of the artist, restorer, art critic and art theorist, educator and teacher.
The exhibition "Conversation with a Master..." strives to interpret Grabar's art heritage. The exposition features works by contemporary authors based on his works, revealing the continuity and preservation of the traditions of Russian impressionism. At the same time, it shows the development of art techniques implemented by the artist.
It spotlights the main topics of Grabar's oeuvre: winter landscape, portrait, still life, Moscow views and estates. The exhibition comprises a total of about 40 canvases. Artists of the "Workshop 18" Art Association preserve and develop the traditions of the Moscow art school in their work. The history of this movement is inextricably connected with Igor Grabar.
A characteristic feature of this art school is work directly from nature, more often in the open air. It makes it possible to convey the most subtle and elaborate colour vibrations of light and air, the elusive atmosphere of the surrounding world. The main inspiration for artists is the beauty of native nature; the major tool is the power of colour; the urgent task is to convey the complex aspects of reality with art techniques.
The exhibition will introduce visitors to the current interpretation of the famous works of the painter, which inspire contemporary artists even now.
The exposition will run until June 4.
