Internet and History of Saint-Petersburg: Online project "Four Centuries of Business Petersburg" launched

The exhibition "Four Centuries of Business Petersburg" was opened in Saint-Petersburg, on Bolshaya Morskaya Street (near the arch of the General Staff Building). The thematic stands show the development of Saint-Petersburg business and entrepreneurship at different times. But the project, developed by Business Petersburg, is not the street exposition only.

The Business Petersburg portal launched an online project of the same name. It will regularly release materials that improve information from street stands. The history of Saint-Petersburg, including the history of the economy, is rich. It is impossible to place the key facts on a single banner.

The texts and thematic articles that journalists of the Business Petersburg prepare together with historians enter the following sections: banking business in different periods, industrial development, trade and merchants, entertainment and leisure in Saint-Petersburg in the past centuries. The project also highlights the issue of the establishment and improvement of communications.

The content of the last section is not accidental. Now we consider rapid communication as something usual, but it was not so in the past. Besides, the evolution of the communications sector fostered the development of trade and economic relations. The rapid information flow was favourable not only for international relations or military affairs but also for business, acquisitive of any change in the situation.

The project "Four Centuries of Business Petersburg" will illustrate the communication development from Peter the Great to the present. The users will learn about the launching of the first telegraph and changes in the life of Petersburg residents after the telephone invention. The authors paid special attention to changes in business relations after the introduction of the Internet, including mobile technology.
