23 May 2021

The National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve (Vitebsk Region, Polotsk) hosts an exhibition from the collections of the Pushkin Museum-Reserve entitled "Pushkin. Gogol. Graphic works by Yuri Lyukshin".

The work of the Saint-Petersburg artist Yuri Lyukshin is rich and plentiful, as the original art of the master. He is a graphic artist, painter, art critic, organizer of exhibitions and competitions of children's drawings, teacher, head of the charitable children's program "Colors of Good".

An exhibition from the collections of the State Memorial Historical-Literary and Natural-Landscape Museum-Reserve "Mikhailovskoye" is devoted to Russian literature. The exposition includes forty-nine graphic works. They illustrate two great writers noted for their brilliant talent - Alexander Pushkin and Nikolai Gogol. Several series, created in different years, tell a single story about the life and destinies of two geniuses, their joys and sorrows, the nature of art, ways of both Russian and world literature, the search for the sense of life and truth, the striving for the knowledge of God.

The combination of two characters - Pushkin and Gogol - is justified both by the artist's art interest and historical fact: Pushkin and Gogol met in May 1831.

The works by Yuri Lyukshin are a noticeable event in modern scientific research on Pushkin and Gogol. Some paintings were previously showcased at exhibitions related to the writers' anniversaries. Thus, a separate section with illustrations to Pushkin's works comprises graphic works from "The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish" series, marking the 200th poet's anniversary in 1999. The author represents Pushkin's heritage highlighting happiness and its nature.

The exhibition will run until June 20, 2021.
